Guitar Ensemble Festival

Can you believe its been 10 years?!!  Saturday February 25th, 2017 marks the 10th annual FMEA Guitar Ensemble Festival...a day full of guitar activity including ensemble performances from elementary, middle and high school programs, a performance of the Ferguson High School (Miami) rock ensemble F.E.A.R., solo lesson evaluation opportunities from University of Tampa Guitar Teacher John Demas AND a formal classical guitar recital from renowned performer and Professor of Guitar at Stetson University, Dr. Stephen Robinson.  Ensembles of all levels of experience perform for NO RATINGS and receive instant feedback from Dr. Robinson in areas of technique, tone, musicality and musical interpretation.  PLEASE download the info sheets and application and get your APPLICATION SUBMITTED by February 10th, 2017 for the Saturday February 25th event.  Please email Ed Prasse at prasse@aol.com if you have questions or need additional information.  See you there!

2016-2017 All-State Audition Requirements

The FMEA All-State Guitar Ensemble auditions are open to high-school students in grades 9-12 who participate in a school guitar program. See the FMEA All-State Page for more eligibility details.

Membership Requirements: Teachers must be a current members of FMEA to sponsor auditioning All-State Guitar students.  Membership must be current as of September 7, 2016. If paying by check, it must be postmarked 7 days before the audition entry deadline.

Audition Registration: Teachers will register their students through the MPA-Online system.  Deadline is September 7, 2016. Payment and forms generated in MPA Online should be sent to the FMEA office, NOT the FOA district chair. 

Audition Dates: Auditions are held in conjunction with the Florida Orchestra Association auditions.  Contact your FOA District Chair or see the FSMA Calender of Events for exact dates and times for your district. Please note that we are extremely grateful to FOA for helping facilitate our auditions, but guitar teachers do not need to become members of FOA.   

Dr. Michael Quantz will be the conductor/clinician for the 2017 FMEA All-State Guitar Ensemble. We are excited to have him this year and look forward to a great experience for our students.  Please find the audition items document attached to this email.

What's new? new scales, new solo etude, new ensemble excerpt items

What continues? a rigorous audition: prepare two scales yet play one at the audition; prepare two excerpts from an ensemble piece; play the entire etude with D.S. repeat; sight-reading.

Basic All-State planning timeline:

  •   distribute the music to your students for immediate practice
  •   register auditioning students online by September 7, 2016
  •   perform the auditions in late September
  •   results announced in October
  •   make hotel reservations and register students for the conference
  •   music mailed mid-late October
  •   practice in November and December
  •   arrive in Tampa on Tuesday January 10th, 2017 at 7pm for first rehearsal with individual parts prepared
  •   long, yet rewarding rehearsals on Wednesday and Thursday
  •   All-State Guitar concert on Thursday Jan 12th 2017 at 12:30pm
